The Whitley County Community Foundation sponsors and hosts an annual recognition ceremony called The Heart of Gold Awards. This program is designed to recognize "everyday folks" in the community who make Whitley County a nicer place to live and work through their simple acts of kindness. Whitley County residents may nominate anyone from their community, regardless of age, for a Heart of Gold Award. All nominees receive a special inscribed medallion. Three overall winners are selected, and awarded the opportunity to make a $1,000 grant to a charitable Whitley County project of their choice.
